Islamabad: In a significant development, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has granted approval for the construction of the world’s largest aviary within Islamabad’s F-9 Park. Spanning over an expansive area of at least 10 acres, this ambitious project aims to establish a sanctuary for diverse bird species, contribute to biodiversity conservation, and offer an immersive learning experience for visitors. The decision was made during a recent meeting of the CDA board, led by Chairman Noorul Amin Mengal.

The CDA has entrusted a private firm with the responsibility of developing this monumental facility under the design, build, operate, and transfer (DBOT) model. Recognizing the magnitude of the project, the CDA board has directed the planning wing to make necessary amendments to the master plan of F-9 Park. Upon completion, the aviary in Islamabad is set to become the largest facility of its kind in the world, as stated by CDA spokesperson Syed Safdar Shah.

In addition to the aviary, the CDA board has also approved the auction of 20 plots for food outlets in the upcoming Capital Street, situated near the 7th Avenue interchange. While the initial plan allocated 50 plots for this purpose, the board decided to auction 20 plots in the first phase. The open auction for these 20 plots is scheduled to take place soon.

Furthermore, the CDA board has given its consent for the “revised layout plans” of three new residential sectors, namely F-13, D-13, and E-13. These sectors, acquired by the CDA through the land-sharing formula, will undergo development work after settling compensation cases with local landowners. The CDA anticipates generating over Rs100 billion from the auction of commercial and residential plots within these sectors, with a completion timeline of approximately two years.

The budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 was also approved during the CDA board meeting, with an allocated amount of Rs150.94 billion. The budget document indicates that the total expenditure of the civic agency is estimated to be Rs150 billion and Rs90 million, leaving a surplus amount of Rs850 million.
