Zig Zag Kiln bricks are fired in a continuous zig-zag path through the kiln, resulting in more uniform heating, better colour consistency, higher compressive strength (typically 7 to 10 N/mm² vs 5 to 7 N/mm² for standard), and lower water absorption (under 12% vs over 15% for standard). This reduces damp wall problems significantly over 10 to 20 years. The Rs 6/nos premium (Rs 24 vs Rs 18) is recovered many times over in reduced maintenance costs. Pakistan standard brick size is 9 × 4.5 × 3 inches (196 × 114 × 76 mm). With a standard 0.5-inch (12mm) mortar joint, the effective brick size becomes 9.5 × 5 × 3.5 inches. This calculator uses these standard dimensions. A 9-inch (double brick) wall uses approximately 9,000 bricks per 1,000 sqft. A 4.5-inch (single brick) wall uses approximately 4,500 bricks per 1,000 sqft.
